Summer 2025

As the summer sun begins to fade and the first signs of the Autumn are upon us, we take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy and exciting few months for team GREENS2BLUE. The summer months have flown by in a whirlwind of fundraising events, intense training sessions and meticulous planning/preparation for our departure from La Gomera in under 100 days … well 95 to be exact but who’s counting?!

Fundraising

This summer has been nothing short of incredible on the charity fundraising front. We hosted a golf day at The Alwoodley Golf Club which raised £31,500.00, followed by an unforgettable Midsummer Night’s Ball which raised a staggering £110,000. These two events - and the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who has supported us, has seen us exceeded our original target of £150,000. Every penny of which has been sent to our nominated charities. It’s a milestone we are incredibly proud of and we are now aiming for an ambitious increase to our target to £200,000.00. We would just like to thank every individual, business and the invaluable volunteers who have helped us to get this far. Your support is making a huge difference to Maggies - the home of cancer care and Friends of Alfie Martin.

Preparations

In June we completed our training with The Ocean Rowing Academy (TORA) and a big thanks to our coaches@duncroy1 & @aaron1664. However , as they both pointed out, nothing will fully prepare us for what lies ahead - not least rowing Brizo 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all the way to Antigua. We will deal with seasickness, 40 foot waves and every type of weather in between.

Sponsors

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors who have supported us on this journey. However, a very special mention must go to our headline sponsor, Begbies Traynor Group @begbiestraynorgroup whose unwavering support has been nothing short of overwhelming. Their continued commitment has played a crucial role in us getting to this point. We are also excited to welcome two new sponsors on board to our ‘Atlantic Ocean Course’ - Ardent and SBFM Group. It’s fantastic to have them on-board as part of the team. We do however, still have six holes available for sponsorship for those who want to be part of our extraordinary journey. It doesn’t stop there though and we will soon be making an exciting announcement about our official oar sponsors which marks another key milestone in our preparations…..
